Sitka Alder - Alnus Sinuata
Description:
A tree native to Eastern Washington the Sitka Alder does best on moist sites. Nitrogen - fixing ability in the roots enables the plant to tolerate a variety of soil types. The Sitka Alder has serrated leaves and grows to 20-25'. It is excellent for erosion control and establishing a dense thicket for a screen, barrier or wildlife habitat.

Description:

Quaking Aspen - Populus tremuloides
Description:
The quaking aspen is fast-growing and reaches approximately 40' when mature. The bark on the limbs and trunk is smooth, with leaves that flutter with the slightest breeze. The leaves turn a showy gold in the fall. It is adaptable to most soils, as long as the soil has a high water content. It is a valuable browsing species for big game.

Description:

Ponderosa Pine - Pinus ponderosa
Description:
The most common conifer in Spokane County, it is also known as yellow or bull pine. It has a mature height of 120-140', and is fast growing with lush green needles and pineapple-shaped cones. It is drought tolerant and prefers well-drained soils and full sun. Due to its size, it should not be planted under utility lines.

Western Larch - Larix occidentalis
Description:

Colorado Blue Spruce - Picea pungens
Description:
A slow grower during the first three years and then the growth rate increases slightly. Reaching 70-100', it is often used as a windbreak. It has green to blue foliage, and its dense crown provides winter cover for small animals. It requires supplemental water in hot, dry weather.

Gro-low Sumac - Rhus aromatic
Description:
Also known as fragrant sumac, it is a deciduous shrub that only reaches approximately 1.5-2' in height but has a spread up to 8' wide. Its leaves are fragrant and turn from green to a show red or orange in the fall. Yellow flowers bloom in the spring and attract birds and butterflies. The Gro-low sumac is a low maintenance shrub that performs best with full sun to partial shade, and is a good choice for mass plantings and to help stabilize soil. It is drought-tolerant with low water needs, and it requires well-drained soil. The Gro-low Sumac is sold individually and is potted. Price $8.00 each with limited quantity.

Black Walnut - Juglans Nigra
Description:

Description:

Concolor Fir - Abies Concolor
Description:
One of the most adaptable firs it is commonly called white fir and can reach heights of 130-150'. In the average home landscape the tree will reach 30-50' tall and 15-25' wide when mature. Austrian Pine - Pinus Nigra
Description:
A dense and full upright evergreen. It canreach 50' tall and a spread of 20'. It is a very adaptable conifer as it is both heatand cold tolerant. It grows in a wide variety of soils, providing they are not too wet. It will tolerate soils that are close to saturation for short periods of time, but is better suited to well-drained soils. Description:

Description:

Mockorange - Philadelphus lewisii
Description:
A deciduous shrub, and tree sale staple, it reaches 10-12' tall, and is known for its very fragrant and showy white clustered flowers. It is a good choice to use as a border or screen, and to stabilize soil. It prefers sun to partial shade. While it can tolerate drought, the mockorange will produce more flowers if given supplemental water in hot, dry areas.

Snowberry - Symphoricarpos Albus
Description:
Snowberry is a deciduous shrub that can grow from 3-8' tall, with an approximately equal spread. They can spread by underground runners, creating thickets that can be quite large. It is an outstanding conservation species, is adaptable to a wide range of sites and its rhizomatous root system make it a good soil stabilizer, provides wildlife habitat, and is a common riparian species. The berries are poisonous.

Ninebark - Physocarpus Capitatus
Description:
Ninebarks are very hardy deciduous shrubs, and do best in full sun or very light shade. They flower nicely in the spring, have colorful foliage in the summer, have nice vibrant fall color, and the exfoliating bark is attractive in winter. It is medium sized shrub, 8-10' tall and about that wide. Ninebark adapts to most soils and is easy to grow and care for. Soils that are little acidic is preferred. When established, ninebarks are drought tolerant and long lived.
