Employment & Volunteering
The SCD maintains a volunteer pool for a variety of programs throughout the year, and the program is vital to not only the SCD, but to natural resources throughout Spokane. The projects vary during the year and include:
• Willow Warriors: volunteers head out in kayaks and canoes on Hangman Creek to plant 3,000 willows in two days.
• Various tree plantings
• Stream bank restoration work
• And more!
Willow Warriors 2017: Friday April 28 and Saturday April 29 - Register by April 14
This year, we have 3,000 mixed species of native willow to plant between the two days. This will be our ninthyear for this event! Every year it is so exciting to get out there see what’s getting established from the previous years in both of our target reaches. Warning!!! Space for this event is limited by the number of canoes that we have available to us. At this point, we can only accommodate a maximum of 16-20 people per day (8-10 canoes), unless some of you wish to bring your own canoes/kayaks (please let us know if you plan to bring your own). In the interest of fairness, please be aware that we will be operating the event on a first-come-first-served basis, so signing up early is highly encouraged.
