Presents

the bioBug

This is the Clean Green Bio Machine, a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle powered by a turbo diesel engine and fueled with 100% biodiesel.  The BioBug is part of Spokane County Conservation District's educational efforts to increase awareness of biodiesel and its positive impacts on our environment and our economy.

No modifications were needed to operate the BioBug on biodiesel.  The biodiesel does not affect the vehicle's high fuel economy.  In fact, some biodiesel users find a slight increase in fuel economy and a smoother running engine due to the cleaning and lubricating properties of the fuel.  One of the most noticeable benefits of the biodiesel is the better smelling exhaust.  With biodiesel, the exhaust smells more like french fries or a warm waffle iron than the toxic fumes of petroleum diesel.

The BioBug has been seen in a number of events around Spokane, including the 2005 St. Patrick's Day Parade, and has helped the District draw attention to its efforts to pass incentives for the development of the biodiesel industry in the state.
