Trees are an important natural resource in Spokane County, whether part of a forest or providing shade in the backyard. The Forestry Department at the Spokane County Conservation District applies an ecologically balanced approach to managing, utilizing, and protecting the forest and wildlife resources. While the SCCD specializes in assisting the non-industrial private forest land owner with their forestry issues, the District also provides assistance to the public and local governments in rural and urban areas.

For information on recommended street trees for the Spokane area, visit the Spokane Urban Forestry page. The Spokane Urban Forestry program provides information to assist home and landowners with their responsibilities for our urban trees.

The Forestry Department is available to provide a wealth of tree information and assistance.

  • Forest management planning and project implementation
  • Forest insect and disease identification and control
  • Reforestation plans and planting
  • Site specific planting recommendations
  • High-risk tree assessment for landowners and developers
  • Wildlife habitat restoration advice
  • Tips for backyard habitat development
  • Reduction of woodland fire hazard and fire recovery and salvage assistance
