The Green Zone History

The Green Zone made its debut at the 1996 Spokane Interstate Fair. Visitors had the opportunity to walk through the interactive interdisciplinary exhibit created by a coalition of private businesses, public agencies and individuals all dedicated to the promotion of environmental sustainability.

The Green ZoneIn 1997, the Board of Directors decided to create a permanent Green Zone exhibit in conjunction with the Spokane County Conservation District and WSU/Spokane County Cooperative Extension.

The Green Zone campus includes outdoor demonstration sites and indoor displays. Information points throughout the site interpret demonstrations of environmentally sustainable practices. A Resource Center is housed in the WSU/Spokane County Extension Education Center. Classroom space is available.
