Spring 2009 In Touch with Conservation Newsletter

This edition of the newsletter highlights several of our successful endeavors from last year, including three of our Water Resource projects that improved fish passage in Spokane County, and a thinning operation performed by our Forestry department that helped to reduce the fire danger in the Ridge at Hangman development in southwest Spokane. There is a follow-up study on the ban of dishwashing detergent containing phosphorous, and a feature on Nancy MacKerrow, who is taking conservation into her hands by creating The Susie Forest in honor of her late daughter.

Summer/Fall 2008 In Touch with Conservation Newsletter

This edition of the newsletter kicks-off our annual tree & shrub seedling sale, that runs now through March 2009. It also highlights the Firewise program that provides free risk assessments to homeowners, as well as our new Direct Seed Mentoring program that partners novice producers with experienced direct seeders. The recent ban on dishwashing-detergent containing phosphorous is discussed, and we say good-bye to forester Alan Hawson, who is retiring from the SCCD after 25 years.

Winter/Spring 2008 In Touch with Conservation Newsletter
In this edition of the newsletter we meet the newest Supervisor to join the Spokane County Conservation District team; Mary Sullivan who was appointed to the Board last November. We also feature Tree City USA, a program of the National Arbor Day Foundation that aims to help local communities create well-organized tree care programs. We highlight several programs undertaken by the Water Resources department and we continue our series of "Conservation in Action" by featuring the planting habits of Phil Petersen, who transformed 10 acres of vacant land into a sprawling forestland with over 200 trees.
