Since 1970, the Spokane County Conservation District has provided low-cost trees and shrubs for sale to the public at its Annual Tree & Shrub Seedling Sale. This is a great opportunity for landowners to join with the District in "putting conservation in the ground". The plants are suitable for use in a variety of locations, including your urban backyard and along your streamside property to establish a lush riparian buffer.

More than 30 plant species are available, including many plants that are native to the region. The plants are small, bare-root seedlings typically 12 to 24 inches tall. Fertilizers, compost, tree shelter tubes and animal repellents are also available.

The order period begins in October each year, with plants available for pick up the last week of March. Early ordering of plants is encouraged, as supplies are limited and orders are filled in the order they are received. Any surplus trees and shrubs will be available for purchase on the pick up dates in March.

In October, sales brochures with descriptions of available plants and ordering instructions will be available. To be placed on the mailing list to receive a brochure, contact the District office at (509) 535-7274. The website will also feature pictures and descriptions of the plants for sale and the order form will be available for download.

Landowners wishing to purchase a substantial number of trees for a large resource conservation project (such as a reforestation project of more than 250 trees) may be eligible for a special contract purchase. Contact Alan Hawson, District Forester, at (509) 535-7274.
